Stuttering

At Beacon Stuttering and Speech Center, we’re dedicated to using the most cutting edge stuttering therapies to help patients of all ages learn to communicate and become confident in their speech.

Treatment

Ms. Rodriguez’s services include evaluation and individual therapy for children, teens, and adults beginning as young as 3 years of age. This evaluation assesses the individual’s communication in a variety of contexts, in order to cultivate a thorough and comprehensive profile of the individual’s speech.

Individual Stuttering Treatment:

Ms. Rodriguez provides individual fluency therapy customized for the specific needs of adults, teens, and children, including preschoolers, who stutter, in her office in Brookline Massachusetts. Therapy is typically scheduled once or twice a week for 40 minutes each session, depending on the needs of the client. Caregivers are an integral part of the therapy process.

Stuttering Treatment for Children:

Ms. Rodriguez works with young and school-age children who may be at risk for developing stuttering. After a complete fluency evaluation, your child’s risk factors for developing a stutter are determined and recommendations are given about treatment and next steps.

Evaluation

Ms. Rodriguez provides evaluation services to preschool and school-age children, teens, and adults. The evaluation may occur in one or two sessions. A written report will be provided describing the findings regarding you or your child’s communication and recommendations for moving forward. A separate conference meeting is scheduled to discuss the evaluation and collaborate on the best steps to take if therapy is needed.

Evaluations include:

  • The collection and analysis of speech samples (video) in a variety of communication interactions
  • Pertinent case history information obtained from previous records and client and/or parent interview
  • Examination of anxiety and attitudes regarding the client’s communication
  • A written report that outlines detailed findings and recommendations for treatment based on the client’s communication needs

Consultation

Consultations are available to families, individuals, and schools/professionals to support and assist a client’s fluency in all of their communication environments. Consultations are also an excellent starting point to determine if a client is ready for therapy.
